BGT 2023: 4th Test ends in draw; India wins series 2-1

The fourth match of the four-match Test series between India and Australia has been drawn. Batting first after winning the toss in the match played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Australia scored 480 runs in the first innings. In response, Team India’s first innings ended on 571 runs. Australia had scored 175 runs for two wickets by the end of the match. After this both the captains decided to draw the match.

India won the first two Tests

There has been a Test draw in India after 15 months. Earlier in November 2021, there was a Test draw between India and New Zealand. The match was played at Green Park, Kanpur. Since then till now Team India has played 12 Tests and only one match has been drawn. During this, Team India won eight Tests and faced defeat in three. India won this test series 2-1. Team India won the first test in Nagpur by an innings and 132 runs and the second test by six wickets. Australia won by nine wickets in the third test.

Trophy for the fourth consecutive time in the name of India

With the victory in both these tests, India also won the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Along with winning the Border-Gavaskar Trophy this year, Team India has also created history.Team India captured the Border-Gavaskar Trophy for the fourth time in a row. The Border Gavaskar Trophy series is being played between India and Australia for almost 26 years, but this is the first time that a team has captured this trophy for the fourth time in a row.

India had a 2-0 lead over Australia as soon as they won the Delhi Test. The Border-Gavaskar Trophy was started in 1996, since then only India out of the two teams has captured it for four consecutive times. Before 1996, it was played under the name of India-Australia Test Series.

History of India-Australia Test Series

So far 16 Border-Gavaskar Trophy series have been played between India and Australia. Out of these 11 times Team India has captured this trophy. India won this trophy in 1996/97, 1997/98, 2000/01, 2003/04, 2008/09, 2010/11, 2012/13, 2016/17, 2018/19, 2020/21, 2022/23. At the same time, Australia has won this trophy five times. They captured this trophy in 1999/00, 2004/05, 2007/08, 2011/12, 2014/15. Overall, a total of 28 Test series have been played between the two teams. Of these, Australia has won 12 series, while Team India has won 11 series. Five series have been drawn.
