RCB wins first WPL title

Royal Challengers Bangalore has won their first title in the Women’s Premier League. In the title match of Season 2, the team defeated Delhi Capitals by 8 wickets. This was also Bengaluru’s first win over Delhi in this league. The title of the first season of WPL was won by Mumbai Indians.

Delhi Capitals, who came to bat after winning the toss, were all out for 113 runs in 18.3 overs in the final of WPL-2 played on Sunday at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi. In reply, Bengaluru chased the target with 2 wickets in 19.3 overs. Ellyse Perry contributed 35 unbeaten runs and Richa Ghosh contributed 17 unbeaten runs. Sophie Devine scored 32 runs and captain Smriti Mandhana scored 31 runs.

Earlier, Delhi opener Shefali Verma played an inning of 44 runs on 27 balls, while captain Meg Lanning contributed 23 runs. Shreyanka Patil took 4 wickets, while Sophie Molyneux took 3 wickets in an over. She was chosen player of the match.

Bengaluru’s baters chased the easy target of 114 runs in a very restrained manner. The foundation of the team’s victory was laid by the opening pair of captain Smriti Mandhana and Sophie Devine. Both of them made an opening partnership of 49 runs on 49 balls. After that the captain along with Elise Perry (35 not out) took the team’s score to 82 runs.

Here, after Smriti was out, Perry took command and along with Richa Ghosh (17 not out) took the team to the target. Shikha Pandey and Minnu Mani got one wicket each from Delhi.

After winning the toss and opting to bat first, Delhi got off to a good start with Shefali Verma and captain Meg Lanning. Both made an opening partnership of 64 runs on 43 balls. From here it seemed that the team would score a big score, but as soon as opener Shefali Verma was out, the process of falling wickets started.
