Uttarakhand plans to construct world’s longest road tunnel connecting Dehradun-Tehri

Tehri of Uttarakhand has made a special identity in the field of tourism. World class tourism facilities are being developed here, so that it can be developed as an international tourist destination. Home to one of the largest dams in Asia (Tehri Dam), Tehri district, is now going to witness another spectacular work. Here the 30 km long Dehradun to Tehri tunnel will be built. The project work is progressing rapidly. NHAI, a central government agency, has also started the tender process for preparing the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the proposed tunnel. 30 km long motor road tunnel will be built between Dehradun to Tehri, which will be a big record in itself. This road tunnel will be the longest such tunnel not only in Asia but in the world. At present, this record is in the name of Laerdal Tunnel located in Norway, which is 24.5 km long. In this matter, Tehri will soon achieve a big achievement.

This tunnel will give a new identity to water sports and adventure tourism in Tehri Lake. This will also strengthen the connectivity. The proposed tunnel between Dehradun and Tehri will be built from Rajpur Road to Koti Colony, the area adjoining Tehri Lake. With its construction, the journey from Doon to Tehri can be completed in just one hour. Right now it takes around three and a half hours. With the construction of the tunnel, the distance between Tehri and Dehradun will be reduced from 105 km to around 30 km. It will also be easy to reach Tehri from Delhi. The journey which is of 7 to 8 hours will be completed in just 3 to 4 hours. The approach road of 7 to 10 km on either side of this tunnel will also be part of the project. During the meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami had requested to build this tunnel in the past. As soon as the Center gave the green signal, work on the Dehradun to Tehri tunnel project has started. CM Dhami has thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari and Union Home Minister Amit Shah for this project.
