Asian Games 2023: Rohan Bopanna and Rutuja Bhosale win gold in mixed doubles

India’s experienced tennis player Rohan Bopanna did wonders in the Asian Games. He won the gold medal at the age of 43. Bopanna became champion in the mixed doubles event with Rutuja Bhosale on Saturday (September 30). They won the final by defeating Chinese Taipei’s En-shuo Liang and Tsung-hao Huang 2-6, 6-3 (10-4). Earlier, the pair of Ramkumar Ramanathan and Saketh Myneni had won the silver medal in men’s doubles.

Bopanna and Rutuja made a slow start in the match. Both lost the first set 2-6. After losing the first set, Bopanna and Rutuja made a strong comeback. Both won the second set 6-3. After this there was a super tie-break in the second set. In this, Bopanna and Rutuja won 10-4.

Bopanna’s second gold

Rohan Bopanna has now become a two-time Asian Games champion. He won the men’s doubles with Divij Sharan in 2018. This 43 year old player proved that age is just a number. Rutuja also got the benefit of his experience. Together they surprised the Chinese Taipei pair.
