Nirbhaya convicts exhaust legal pleas; new death warrant date to be issued

Nirbhaya’s convicts mercy plea has been rejected by President Ram Nath Kovind. Now the way has been cleared to issue the death warrant of the culprits. However, according to the guidelines of the Supreme Court, after the mercy petition is dismissed, the guilty Pawan will get 14 days notice. It is clear that the culprits can be hanged only after 14 days.

After the mercy petition was rejected, Nirbhaya’s lawyer has filed a petition in Patiala House Court today. The court has been demanded to issue a new death warrant for the culprits. However, Pawan can still file a petition in the Supreme Court against his mercy petition. As the rest of the convicts did. At the moment, Pawan also had law options, which are over.

High court rejects the petition

Earlier, a petition related to the culprits of the Nirbhaya gang rape case was dismissed by the Delhi High Court. In this petition, an appeal was made to ascertain the mental and physical condition of the four convicts. In this petition, the National Human Rights Commission has been instructed to find out the physical and mental condition of the four convicts.

The court said that instead of filing a petition in the Delhi High Court, the petitioner should directly approach the National Human Rights Commission. The court said that no such instructions are required on this kind of petition, that is why we are rejecting this petition.

Three death warrants stayed

Earlier, the Patiala House Court had stayed the third death warrant issued for March 3. While canceling the death warrant, the Patiala House Court of Delhi said “that before hanging, the convict has the right to use all the legal options. It is the job of the court to ensure this, so the hanging till March 3 is deferred till the next order”. Earlier, the hanging date was fixed on 22 January and 1 February.
