Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev has resigned from his post. He has submitted his resignation to Russian President Vladimir Putin. According to the report of the TASS News Agency, Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev on Wednesday submitted his resignation to President Vladimir Putin.

Russian news agencies claimed that Putin thanked Medvedev for his service, expressing dissatisfaction with the fact that his cabinet had failed to meet all its goals.

Russian media claims that Vladimir Putin plans to nominate Dmitry Medvedev as the Vice President of the Presidential Security Council. Dmitry Medvedev has been an old ally of President Vladimir Putin. Since 2012, Medvedev has been continuously working as the Prime Minister. Dmitry Medvedev has also held the post of President from 2008 to 2012.

Members will continue to work till the formation of new cabinet

Vladimir Putin has asked members of Medvedev’s cabinet to continue working on their posts until a new cabinet is formed. After the resignation of Dmitry Medvedev, President Putin also addressed the first annual speech of the nation on Wednesday.

In this speech, Putin proposed that the Russian constitution be amended, so that the powers of the Prime Minister and members of his cabinet could be expanded. This proposed move of President Vladimir Putin is seen as an effort to stay in power after Putin’s current term ends in 2024.
