Ceasefire proposal in Gaza passed in UNSC

For the first time amid the 5 and a half month long war between Israel and Hamas, a resolution has been passed in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) for a ceasefire in Gaza. During this meeting, 14 out of 15 members voted in favor of the resolution, while America abstained from voting.

The resolution demanded the immediate release of all hostages without conditions. It has also been asked to remove all obstacles to providing humanitarian aid to Gaza. This is the first time that America did not vote on the ceasefire proposal. Before this, the US had vetoed these proposals in UNSC thrice.
