DGCI gives conditional approval to Covishield & Covaxin

There is good news about Covishield and Covaxin, which have proved to be vital in the war against Corona pandemic. The Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) on Thursday gave conditional approval to launch Covishield and Covaxin. But it will be mandatory to follow the guidelines of the Ministry of Health for applying the vaccine. On the other hand, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said that the government’s free vaccination campaign will continue.

On Thursday, the Drug Controller General of India, taking a big decision, gave conditional market approval for Covishield and Covaxin. According to reports from the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, capping of prices of both the major vaccines was also discussed in a recent meeting.

Vaccine will not be available in medical store

According to DGCI, the vaccine will not be available at the medical store. Vaccine supplements can be purchased from hospitals and clinics. Vaccination data will have to be submitted to DCGI every six months. The data will also be updated on the Cowin app.

Giving information, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said that the government campaign of free vaccination will continue. The Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) has now permitted Covaxin and Covishield with restricted use in emergency situations to people of the adult population with certain conditions.
