Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal tweeted that it was never imagined that Gautam Gambhir could fall to this level. We have to fight against these forces.”

East Delhi Lok Sabha seat

The first election on this seat was won by the Bharatiya Jana Sangh. Since then, this seat has become a Congress stronghold. In the nineties, the BJP re-occupied this seat. In the new delimitation, a large part of this seat has gone to the North-Eastern constituency. At present, BJP’s Mahesh Giri is an MP from here.

In the year 1967 East Delhi Lok Sabha seat came into being. Jansangh’s candidate, H. Devgan, won the first election in this seat. Due to the large number of migrants and Punjabi voters, the Congress made HKL Bhagat its candidate in the seventies and won the seat.
