Former Delhi CM Sheila Dikshit dies aged 81

2 Day state mourning in Delhi

Former Delhi Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Sheila Dikshit died on Saturday afternoon in Delhi. She was 81 years old and was ill for a long time. She was admitted to Escort Hospital in Delhi this morning. At present, she was the president of Delhi Pradesh Congress. At the same time, the hospital has said that Sheila Dikshit was brought to the hospital after heart attack. After slight improvement in her condition, she suffered another heart attack. She died at 3:55 in the evening.Her body will be kept in Congress headquarters on Sunday. Her funeral will be done tomorrow at 2.30 pm.

The Delhi government has declared a two-day state mourning on the demise of Sheila Dikshit. At the same time, Delhi BJP canceled all its programs after the demise of Sheila Dixit. Recently Sheila Dikshit came in the headlines due to ongoing differences with PC Chacko in charge of National Capital Affairs in AICC.

1. Sheila Dikshit was born on March 31, 1938.

2. Sheila Dikshit has been Chief Minister of Delhi for 15 years.

8. Talking about the personal life of Sheila Dikshit, she was born in Kapurthala in Punjab. Sheila Dixit had secured a master’s degree in history from Miranda House of Delhi University.

9. She was married to late Ilias Vinod Dikshit of Unnao. Vinod Dikshit was the son of the former Governor of Bengal and the Congress leader, late Umashankar Dixit. Sheila Dikshit’s son Sandeep Dikshit has also been a former MP of Delhi.

10. Sheila Dikshit was made the President of Delhi Pradesh Congress in 1998.

11. In 1998, she was defeated in the Lok Sabha elections by contesting from East Delhi as a Congress candidate. But she contested again and was Delhi’s chief minister for three consecutive terms while imposing a hat-trick of victory in the Delhi assembly elections.
