Incessant rains in the hills cause rivers to flow near danger levels in Uttarakhand

Due to the torrential rains in the hilly areas of Garhwal and Kumaon, the scene of devastation is visible everywhere. Scary pictures are coming out from the hill districts of the natural calamity prone state. Rivers like Pindar, Alaknanda, Mandakini, Bhagirathi and Rispana are in spate in the state. The Meteorological Department has said that people living near small rivers and streams in hilly districts need to be careful. Alert has been issued from Rudraprayag to Chamoli and Haridwar. Meanwhile in Rudraprayag district it has been reported that a bridge built on Jagwadi bypass has been washed away. Here the water level of the river has been constantly increasing.

Alaknanda and Mandakini rivers have crossed the danger mark in Rudraprayag district headquarters. The Alaknanda River is flowing at 627 meters and the Mandakini River at 626 meters, which is two meters above the normal level. In view of the incessant rain, the district administration has issued an alert. Along with Rudraprayag, Tehri district administration is also on alert mode. The water level of Alaknanda river has also increased in Srinagar. Water was released from the Srinagar Hydroelectric Project lake in view of the rising water level and debris coming into the river. The water level in Srinagar continued to fluctuate throughout the day on Friday and at times the water level crossed the warning level. Sensitive places in Kirtinagar have been evacuated.

River Ganga is flowing above the danger mark in Rishikesh. There is news of water entering the houses of people in Raini village of Chamoli, causing chaos throughout the day. Due to debris, Badrinath Highway has been closed near Benakuli Band, Lambagad, Gulabkoti and Radang Band. At the same time, Helang-Urgam road has also been damaged due to landslide near Helang Hydro Electric Project for about 20 meters, due to which the movement has come to a standstill. 32 roads in the district are closed due to debris. On the other hand, the water level of Dhauli and Kali rivers has increased further in Kumaon. An alert has been issued for all the districts by the State Control Room.
