‘Purple Wave’: Women in Switzerland protest for equality

In whole Switzerland, women have have come to the streets to demand proper wages, equality, end sexual harassment and prevention of violence. Women are expressing outrage and performing rituals by burning their inner clothes.

This is the first women’s exhibition in 28 years in this country. Growing anger over sexuality and increasing indignation over incompetence in the workplace gave birth to “women’s movement” in Switzerland. Many of these women are demanding more salaries for domestic helpers, teachers and women working as caretakers. Generally women are employed for this kind of work in Switzerland.

The women gathered in hundreds in the city of Lausanne in Midnight and took out a rally in the city’s cathedral and marched towards the center of the city.

This performance of women was called “Purple Wave” because for this demonstration women had chosen purple (purple) color.
