Djokovic sets up Nadal clash for Italian Open title

Novak Djokovic will face familiar rival Rafael Nadal in the men’s singles final of the Italy Open Tennis competition today. Nine-time champion Rafael Nadal of Spain defeated Reilly Opelka of USA 6-4, 6-4 in the semi-finals, while in the second semi-final, defending champion Novak Djokovic of Serbia beat Lorenzo Sonego of Italy 6-3, 6-7, 6-2. Djokovic and Nadal have met 56 times so far which the most in the modern era. World number 1 Novak Djokovic has won the tournament 5 times while Nadal will be aiming for a 10th title. Together, the pair have won 14 of the last 16 editions of the tournament.

In the women’s singles semifinal, Poland’s Iga Świątek defeated American Coco Gough 6-4, 6-3. Now, in the final, Iga will face Karolina Pliskova of the Czech Republic.
