Banshidhar Bhagat takes oath as protem speaker of Uttarakhand Assembly

Governor Gurmeet Singh administered the oath of office and secrecy to Protem speaker Banshidhar Bhagat on Monday after the results of the 2022 Assembly elections were declared on March 10. The MLAs elected to the fifth assembly of Uttarakhand then took the oath of office and secrecy in a program organized in the assembly.

First the oath was administered to the women MLAs. Former CM Harish Rawat’s daughter Anupama Rawat was the first to take oath. Savita Kapoor, Rekha Arya, Ritu Khanduri also took oath.

The tenure of the MLAs has started from March 10: Even though the oath-taking ceremony of the MLAs is being held on March 21, but the tenure of the MLAs has started only after getting the certificate of victory. Jagdish Chandra, former secretary of the assembly, says that the term of MLAs has started after getting the certificate of victory in the assembly elections.

He said that the importance of oath is that no MLA can sit in the Legislative Assembly without oath. So all the members are administered the oath. The fifth Legislative Assembly of the state has been constituted from March 11. On March 11, the dissolution of the fourth assembly and the formation of the fifth assembly has been announced by the Raj Bhavan.
