Russian scientists revive nearly 50000 year old ‘zombie’ virus

Viruses are becoming very important for the world. A virus like SARS-Cov-2 of Covid-19 pandemic has created panic in the world for the last three years. Viruses are the strangest microorganisms in the world and their special thing is that if there is no favorable environment, they can remain buried in the icy environment for thousands of years and do not die. Recently, scientists have discovered about a dozen dangerous viruses which were frozen in ice for about 48 thousand years. They named these viruses as Zombie Virus.

Climate change may be at risk

Studies by European scientists have found that the melting of ancient permafrost due to climate change can pose a new threat to humans from these viruses. They have discovered this virus under a frozen lake in Siberia. Researchers have discovered 13 such viruses from this lake which are completely new, that is, they are not active anywhere in the world.

Still contagious thousands of years later

Due to the danger of these viruses, researchers have called them ‘zombie’ viruses. They have found that despite being trapped in frozen ground for thousands of years, they are still infectious. Scientists have been warning for a long time that the effects of climate change are becoming more dangerous due to the release of greenhouse gases such as methane due to the warming of the atmosphere.

In the poles and other icy regions of the world, a large amount of microorganisms are buried under the ice, due to which many types of viruses and bacteria are lying, which are not active anywhere in the world. Scientists say the impact of climate change on these dormant microbes is poorly understood.
