91 Covid-19 recovered patients reported positive again in South Korea

While South Korea has been lauded for its rapid testing methods and quarantine to flatten the curve, but there is some disconcerting news reported from the country. Here 91 people who had been cured from coronavirus infection have been found to be corona positive again. In such a situation, the biggest question is whether the coronavirus can become reactive in the body? If the answer is yes, then Corona’s challenge will become more challenging for the world.

Re-infection or virus activated again?

Jeong Eun-kyeong, director of the Korea Center for Disease Control and Prevention, told the media that it was more likely that the virus in the body had become reactive, rather than being infected again. However, South Korean health department officials have said that it is not yet clear what is behind this trend, investigations are on.

Re-infection among people is a matter of international concern, as many countries are still hoping that infected people will regain immunity against the virus and that this pandemic will not occur again.

‘Number may increase’

As of Monday, the number of such cases in South Korea was 51, which has now risen to 91. About 7 thousand people in South Korea have been cured from the Coronavirus. Kim Woo Joo, professor of infectious diseases at Korea University Guro Hospital, said, “The numbers will still increase, 91 is just the beginning.” KCDC’s Jeong said that it more likely that the virus has reactivated again. Kim also stated that the virus has been reactivated in patients.

Some experts say that discrepancies in the investigation may also be a reason or some part of the virus has survived in the patients.  For a patient to be declared cure from novel coronavirus they have to test negative twice in a span of 24 hours.

South Korea flattens the curve

27 new cases were reported in South Korea on Friday, which is the lowest figure since the Record 900 case in 24 hours in February. According to KCDC, there have been 10,450 cases of corona infection in the country so far. Of these, 211 people have died. Corona was first spread out of China in Daegu city of South Korea, after that no case has been reported here for the first time. In Daegu, 6,807 people were found to be corona infected.

South Korea became the biggest hotspot outside China

In late February, the number of Coronavirus infected had increased after a Corona-infected woman attended a prayer in a church here. South Korea had the highest number of cases of coronavirus outside China, but through a large amount of investigation and social distancing, this country controlled the corona outbreak.
