Re-elections in Israel after PM Netanyahu fails to prove majority

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu failed to form coalition government before the midnight deadline, after which Israeli MPs took an unprecedented step and voted in favor of dissolution of parliament. After this move of MPs, the general elections will be held again on September 17.

Israeli MPs were elected six weeks ago. In the favor of dissolution of the 21st Knesset (Israeli Parliament), they voted with 74 out of 45 votes. This is the first time in Israel’s history when a nominated Prime Minister has not been able to form a government.

Netanyahu won a record fifth time in the election held on 9 April, but failed to combine due to a deadlock over a military bill.
