4 injured as under-construction flyover collapses in Baajpur

Baajpur/Udham Singh Nagar: A nine-foot beam of an under-construction flyover at Baajpur, Udham Singh Nagar district collapsed on Friday night around 9 pm injuring at least four workers seriously. A case has been lodged against Galfar, the Dubai-based company which was involved in the construction of the bridge.

Kamlesh Upadhyay, additional superintendent of police, Kashipur, said, “A case has been filed against Gulfar, a Dubai-based firm which was responsible for building the flyover connecting Doraaha from Baajpur.”

The contract was awarded to the Dubai-based firm last year for contructing the1.5-km of flyover. The case has been registered against three employees from the firm under sections 287 (Negligent conduct with respect to machinery), 337 (Causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others), 338 (Causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) of Indian Penal Code.

The injured were rushed to the government hospital nearby by the locals. Most of the injured labourers were suffering from either multiple fractures, head injuries, broken ribs, ligaments or dislocated shoulders, which left them bruised and battered all over.
