Central government employees to get 3 percent DA hike ahead of Diwali

There is news of a relief for about 1 crore 15 lakh central employees and pensioners of the country. The Government of India has approved the proposal to increase the dearness allowance by 3%. This decision will come into effect from July 1. In this era of increased inflation, the cabinet decided to increase the dearness allowance to the employees and pensioners of the Government of India by 3%. Along with this, the ban on increase in dearness allowance has also been removed. Dearness allowance of government employees and pensioners has increased to 31% from the existing 28%. 47.14 lakh government employees and 68.62 lakh pensioners will get the benefit of this. By this decision there will be an additional burden of 9488.70 crores annually on the government.

How much DA will increase

After the approval of the cabinet, when this order will be implemented, after today’s increase, now the DA will be 31 percent. In July this year, the Union Cabinet had decided to increase the Dearness Allowance and Dearness Relief (DR) rate for central government employees and pensioners by 11 percentage points from July 1. With this the new rate of DA was increased from 17 percent to 28 percent. At the same time, today with the increase of three percent in DA, the new rate of DA has become 31 percent i.e. Central employees will get 31 percent dearness allowance of their basic pay.

When will employees get benefit

These new rates will be applicable from July 1, 2021. This will be an additional 3% payable on the existing 28% of Basic Pay and Pension. This decision will benefit 47.14 lakh central government employees and 68.62 lakh pensioners. Due to this, a burden of Rs 9,488.70 crore will come on the central government exchequer every year.
