Theme of International Women’s Day 2020 : “Realizing women’s rights”

The Generation Equality campaign is bringing together people of every gender, age, ethnicity, race, religion and country, to drive actions that will create the gender-equal world we all deserve.

All leading women in the World including India, have risen high with their own efforts, without looking for any assistance or reservation. No wonder the theme of this year of International Women’s Day has been set to drive actions that will create the gender – equal world they all deserve. It is one of the rights of the women to have equality in gender irrespective of age, ethnicity, race, religion and country. As such actions need to be taken to bring equality of gender at all stages. Luckily India is already engaged in raising the standards of women by providing assistance wherever required to bring them at par with men.

In India as you all know women had been put at a lower level than man where the man was engaged in earning money for the maintenance of the family and women mainly looked after the household matters specially rearing children at smaller ages. No doubt in farmer families women had been helping in fields in all types of works besides doing household jobs. As such the women in villages are more stronger and healthier. But the traditions being followed that women are the weaker section of the society and are required to do that only and were being tortured if they refused to carry on the orders of their husbands. The cases of dowry and other deaths are quite common besides making their lives miserable.

This practice slowly got modified when man folk could not earn sufficient money for bringing up family and the women had to carry out some work to support the family. As the standards increased and expenses became more and more the assistance of women became eminent. It is the stage when need was felt of educating girls who could take up some job or get enough education to go up further. This process picked up and the girls started going to schools instead of just helping their mothers at home and took up jobs later to support the family. What they need is education / training which may enable them to stand on their feet at their own as they are capable to carry out any job for which they get opportunity.

Need was felt to assist them either by providing some financial assistance or some reservations for them to come up to the level of boys and stand on their own feet. This system is working fine and more and more girls are coming up and are ready to demand equality.

Surprisingly reservation for women is demanded and has been granted to in certain cases till the equality comes as weaker sections of the society As such reservation can only be limited till the equality in genders come. In the process certain man folk are likely to be left behind and may need assistance to come up to the level but to maintain the balance assistance has to be given wherever required.

A Spirit has to be generated amongst the women that they are in no way less than man and can do some of the jobs even better than man and as such they be treated as equals in wages and other facilities too.

In India since independence certain sections of the society are being given certain reservations on the basis of cast and creed but in spite of this long period since independence the benefit of such reservations has not reached the grass root level and certain sections are taking extra benefit under one or the other reason. Even after removing the creamy layer of the benefits it has not helped. However the wave to remove benefit of promotion is being tried which has been approved even by the High Court of Uttarakhand and consented by the Supreme Court of India. We must not forget that the reservations are not for ever and people for whom reservations are meant have to come up at their own with those reservations within the specified time. The same goes for women who are trying their best to come up and become even better than men.

The Govt. has carried out a number of development schemes which are directly and indirectly for the upliftment of the women and they must take full advantage of those to come up. The way women are being inducted in different Govt. departments including defence and showing up their worth is praiseworthy. Even some of them have become great entrepreneurs and heading large companies is another example of their competence. On this day we wish them all the best with the hope that they will rise to meet any situation. The world looks to them to set examples of their capacities, leadership and advances in different fields.
