Andy Murray tests positive for Covid-19; doubtful for Australian Open

Star Biritish tennis player Andy Murray was found to be Corona positive. His Covid-19 test report came out positive on Thursday. He was to leave Britain for the Australian Open after two days. An aide of Murray informed the news agency.

The 3-time Grand Slam winner is currently isolated at home. Now a doubt has arisen over his participation in the Australian Open. However, Murray is still expected to take part in the tournament. According to the news agency, Murray will be able to leave for Melbourne for the Australian Open only after getting clearance to travel.

Murray gets wild card entry at Australian Open 2021

Murray received a wild card entry for the first Grand Slam tournament of the year, starting on 8 February. Murray almost quit tennis two years ago in 2019. He is slowly returning to tennis again. Murray has once won the US Open and 2 Wimbledon titles in his career. He has also been runner-up at the Australian Open 5 times. Murray withdrew from the Delray Beach Open in Florida to attend the Australian Open.

Australian Open 2021 delayed by 3 weeks

The Australian Open is starting 3 weeks late this time due to Corona. Earlier this tournament was to be held from 18 January. Players will be quarantined for 14 days before the tournament. However, during quarantine they would be allowed 4 to 5 hours of training in the bio-bubble.

Safety of players is important

Earlier tournament director Craig Tiley said that the first Grand Slam tournament of the year would feature a number of stalwarts including Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, Ashley Barty, Naomi Osaka and Serena Williams. Tiley said, ‘The Australian Open will be different from last time. Safety of players is important for us. The players missed the audience last year because of Corona. Therefore 50% of the spectators in the tournament will also be allowed to reach the stadium and watch the match.’

3 tennis courts ready to host Australian Open

3 courts are being prepared in Melbourne Park for the Australian Open. In which Road Laver Arena is the largest. It has a seating capacity of 15,000 people. At the same time, Melbourne Arena has a seating capacity of 9,646 people. Whereas, Margaret Court Arena has a seating capacity of 7,500 people.

Djokovic aiming for record 9th Australian Open crown

Novak Djokovic of Serbia has won the Australian Open title the most 8 times. At the same time, Roy Emmerson of Australia and Roger Federer of Switzerland won the title 6-6 times. Australia’s Jack Crawford and Ken Rosewell have won the Australian Open title 4-4 times.
