Nishant Shetty breaks Srinivas Gowda’s Kambala race

The record of Srinivas Gowda, who beat the pace of Usain Bolt by breaking the record in the traditional buffalo race (Kambala), has been broken. Srinivas Gowda made headlines by covering a distance of 142.5 meters in 13.62 seconds after which many social media users started calling him the ‘Usain Bolt of India’. At the same time, in the same sport, a young man named Nishant Shetty has covered a distance of 143.8 meters in 13.68 seconds breaking his record and becoming the fastest Kambala racer. If calculated to 100 meters then his timing comes out to be 9.51 seconds which is faster than Gowda who had clocked 9.56 seconds. The Kambala race is a race where in a jockey runs behind a pair of bulls in a water logged field.

World famous athlete Usain Bolt made the world record by completing 100 meters in 9.58 seconds. In such a situation, Nishant Shetty has broken both Gowda and Bolt records.

Gowda did not reach for trial

In view of Srinivas Gowda’s race, the Sports Authority of India (SAI) based in Bangalore called him for trial but Gowda refused to give the trial.

After it went viral on social media, Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju had instructed to conduct a trial under the supervision of top SAI coaches. According to SAI, the 28  year old Gowda refused to give a trial.

Congress leader Shashi Tharoor and businessman Anand Mahindra also tweeted and requested the Sports Ministry and Indian Athletics Federation to help Gowda. Two days after advising Gowda to be called for trial, Rijiju said that it is wrong to compare the traditional game with the Olympic game.
