Indian eves stage epic comeback to draw match against England

The single Test match series was played between the Indian women’s team and the England women’s team at the Bristol County ground. In which, batting first after winning the toss, England team declared their innings by scoring 396 runs for 9 wickets. Here, chasing a big score, Team India ended up with 231 runs in the first innings despite a 167 run opening stand. Due to a collapse the England women team decided to enforce the follow-on. After which India had to  bat out the day to save the match on the fourth day of the game.

Doon girl Sneh Rana shines on Debut

Sneh Rana had a dream debut against England. After picking up 4 wickets in the first innings which halted the England Women’s team from scoring a big first innings total, she played a pivotal knock of 80 not out in the second innings when India was looking to save the match. She became the first Indian player male or female to achieve the feat of picking up 4 wickets and scoring a half century on debut. She was ably supported by Taniya Bhatia as the duo put together a 104 run partnership which ensured India salvaged a draw.

Shafali Verma impresses all

Earlier opener Shafali Verma impressed one and all scoring fifties in both the innings of her debut Test. She became the youngest women to hit twin fifties in her debut test. With her swashbuckling style of play many were reminded of Indian opener Virender Sehwag.

Seniors disappoint; debutantes shine

The Indian women’s team’s middle-order collapsed again, but the lower order made it 344 for the loss of 8 wickets on the fourth and final day of one-off cricket against England here on Saturday. In this way the match ended in a draw. Sneh Rana, making her debut, is playing an unbeaten 80 runs. She and Shikha Pandey (18 runs) shared a crucial 41-run partnership for the eighth wicket. Sneh and Taniya Bhatia who too was making her debut stitched together a unbeaten 104 run partnership for the 9th wicket. England scored 396 in the first innings while Team India scored 231 runs. Off-spinner Sneh took 4 wickets.

Deepti & Poonam also scored half-centuries

Continuing ahead with 83 for one wicket, India had scored 171 runs till lunch, in which Deepti Sharma played a restrained innings of 54 runs. Deepti shared a 72-run partnership with Poonam Raut (39 off 83 balls) but was dismissed before lunch. After lunch, England gave two blows to the visiting team. Captain Mithali Raj (04) and Raut were dismissed cheaply, taking the score to 175 for five. Skipper Mithali could not read Ecclestone’s delivery, which left her stumps uprooted while Raut, who was in good form, was caught straight at square leg. Taniya Bhatia then fended off the England eves with a gutsy 44 not out.
