Emotional Federer Farewell at Laver Cup
Roger Federer on Friday retired from tennis after losing the last tournament of his career at the Laver Cup. In this final tournament, Federer teamed up with Rafael Nadal. Federer- Nadal lost 4-6, 7-6(2), 11-9 in this match against America’s Frances Tiafo and Jack Sock.
Roger Federer appeared very emotional after the match. There were glimpses of tears in his eyes. Standing in the middle of the tennis court, he raised both his hands and greeted the people. During this, his greatest rival on court Rafael Nadal also got emotional after a teary eyed farewell speech by Federer.
In his last professional singlesmatch, Federer lost in the quarterfinals of Wimbledon against Poland’s Hubert Hurkaz. He could not play for long due to knee problem. Federer will not compete in a singles match in the Laver Cup.
On the retirement of Federer, there was no one present on the court who did not have moist eyes. Nadal, who played with him in the match, was also emotional after the match. Apart from him, Djokovic, Murray and all the other players also had their eyes wet during this emotional moment.
Federer said after his last match, “It’s a big day for me. I’m not sad but happy. I feel good standing here. I enjoy doing everything that I did for the last time. No pressure on me. I played the match, it was a matter of great happiness for me.”
