Sinner halts Djokovic’s title defence at AO 2024

Serbia’s ace tennis player Novak Djokovic has faced a heart-breaking defeat in the men’s singles semi-finals of the Australian Open 2024. Novak Djokovic’s dream of winning the 25th Grand Slam was shattered as he suffered a semi final loss at the first Grand Slam of the year for the first time. Italy’s Jannik Sinner gave a sensational performance and entered the final of Australian Open 2024 by defeating Novak Djokovic 6-1, 6-2, 6-7(6), 6-3.

The first semi-final of Australian Open 2024 men’s singles between 24 Grand Slam winners Novak Djokovic and Jannik Sinner took place at Rod Laver Arena. Novak’s fans were hopeful that the 10 time champion would defeat fourth seed Sinner and make it to the finals but Sinner had other plans.

The biggest contender for the title, Novak Djokovic, looked completely colorless on Friday. With this, Jannik Sinner has also taken revenge for his Wimbledon semi-final loss to Novak. Novak had made it to the Wimbledon final last year by defeating Sinner after the Italian had taken a 2 sets to love lead.

Novak Djokovic is the most successful player in the tennis world. He has won 24 Grand Slam titles (singles) in a career spanning 16 years, which is the most in the world. Of these 24 titles, 10 are from the Australian Open itself. In terms of winning the most Grand Slam singles titles, Rafael Nadal (22) is at second place and Roger Federer (20) is at third place.

33 match streak ends

Sinner not only ended Djokovic’s title reign at Australian Open 2024, he also ended the World number 1’s 33 match win streak in Melbourne. After the match, the 22 year old who entered his first Australian Open final said, “I’m really happy that I can play Sunday my first final. Let’s see how it goes. But I’m really happy, I’ll come here with a smile and I’ll try my best.”
