UPNL workers strike enters day 10

Employees of Uttarakhand Purva Sainik Kalyan Nigam Limited (UPNL) continued with their statewide protest on the 10th consecutive day here today. They said the state government should regularise their services.

The protesters, under the banner of the UPNL Karamchari Mahasangh, gathered at the Raipur bus stand and raised slogans against the state government. They said memoranda were given to the officials concerned several times but to no avail.

Bhawesh Jagudi, state president of the UPNL Karamchari Mahasangh, flayed the police for allegedly resorting to lathicharge on protesters recently while they were taking out a peacefully rally in support of their demands. He said the association’s office-bearers had decided to intensify agitation to pressurise the state government.

The protesters alleged that the state government had given them false assurance on job regularisation. Meanwhile, the work was affected in different government departments, including power corporation, Jal Sansthan, Education Department, Peyjal Nigam and health sector as nearly 18,000 employees had joined the indefinite protest in the state.
