Five killed, two injured in road accident in Udham Singh Nagar

Five persons were killed and two got injured in a road accident when the Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) they were travelling in veered out of control and crashed into a temple Khatima in Udham Singh Nagar district on Saturday night.

According to the Udham Singh Nagar police, the incident took place around 11pm on Saturday at Jhankiya, about six kilometres away from Khatima and 70km from district headquarter, Rudrapur, “It seems that the driver of the car was over-speeding as the road was empty at that time of the night. He must have lost control over the vehicle and crashed into a Van Shakti temple in Jhankiya. Five persons couldn’t survive the impact and died on the spot while two got injured,” said Naseer Hussain, in charge of Jhankiya police station.

The deceased were identified as Jeet (20), Inderjeet (28), Ram Kashyap (23), Guddu (24) and Shivam (22) while the injured—Ajay Kumar and Deepak Kumar—sustained serious injuries and were rushed to the hospital in Khatima. All the persons were locals and were going to Khatima from Jhankiya.

“The family members of the deceased have told that they had gone to see local fair and were going back to home after two-days. The dead bodies were sent to community health centre in Khatima for postmortem and will handed over to the family members,” said Hussain.

The police officials said that the car got totally damaged due to the massive impact and they had to cut the wreckage for taking out two dead bodies.
