Roger Federer to miss US Open; to undergo 3rd knee surgery

Switzerland’s star tennis player Roger Federer will miss the US Open due to a third operation on his right knee and has little hope of a comeback despite being away from tennis for several months. Federer gave this information through a video message on Instagram on Sunday.

He said, ‘I showed many doctors and got all kinds of information. My knee got worse during the grasscourt season and Wimbledon. They told me that surgery was needed and I decided to follow their opinion. I will be on crutches for several weeks and also away from tennis for several months. Twenty-time Grand Slam champion Federer, 40, admitted his career is probably over, but said he is undergoing knee treatment with the goal of making another comeback.’

He said, ‘I want to be healthy. I want to give myself a ray of hope that I will be able to return to the Tour. I am practical I know how difficult it is at this age.’ Federer stayed away from tennis for almost a year after the 2020 Australian Open. He returned via the French Open in May and withdrew after three wins. He lost in the quarterfinals at Wimbledon and missed the Tokyo Olympics due to a knee injury. The last Grand Slam of the season, the US Open, will begin on August 30.
