FIFA World Rankings: Argentina at the top; India climbs 5 places to 101

World champions Argentina have managed to reach the top of the FIFA World Rankings on Thursday for the first time in six years. At the same time, India has climbed up five places to reach the 101st position. Argentina had won two friendly matches last month to overtake Brazil to take the top spot. Brazil had lost 1-2 to Morocco, which dropped them to third place.

Wins against Panama (2-0) and Curaçao (7-0) last month helped Argentina overtake Brazil. Brazil suffered a 1–2 defeat against Morocco and dropped to third place. This is the first ranking chart of this year. The last came on 22 December, in which Argentina could not reach the top even after becoming the world champion.

World Cup runner-up France moves to second place

France, who lost to Argentina in the final of the World Cup 2022, has climbed one place to reach the second position. They defeated the Netherlands and Ireland in consecutive matches of the European Championship qualifiers. Belgium is fourth as before while England is fifth. It is followed by Netherlands, Croatia, Italy, Portugal and Spain.

India got the advantage of Tri Nations series win

The Indian men’s football team has moved up five places to 101st in the FIFA rankings on the back of victories over Myanmar and Kyrgyzstan in the Tri Nations Series last month. Last month, India beat Myanmar 1-0 and Kyrgyzstan 2-0 in the tournament played in Imphal. With this win, India has gained 8.57 rating points and five places.

India is now one place below New Zealand and one place above Kenya. With 1200.66 total points, team India is ranked 19th among 46 Asian nations. India’s best ranking was 94th, which was achieved in 1996. Japan is the top ranked team among Asian countries.
