India vs New Zealand T20I 2022: Suryakumar hits second century in T20 International

The second match of the three-match T20 series between India and New Zealand is being played at Mount Maunganui. In this match, the world’s number one T20 batsman Suryakumar Yadav of India played an unbeaten inning of 111 runs in 51 balls. This is his second century in T20 International. Earlier this year, Suryakumar had scored an inning of 117 runs in 55 balls against England. In that match, he scored a century in 48 balls, while against New Zealand, Surya completed a century in 49 balls.

Suryakumar hit 11 fours and seven sixes in his innings. During this, his strike rate was 217.65. Suryakumar has become only the second Indian batsman to score two centuries in T20 Internationals in a calendar year. Earlier in 2018, Rohit Sharma did this. Rohit holds the record for scoring the most centuries in T20 Internationals. He has scored four centuries in this format. At the same time, Czech Republic’s S. Davizi, Australia’s Glenn Maxwell and New Zealand’s Colin Munro have scored three centuries each. At the same time, 15 batsmen have scored two centuries in T20 Internationals.

Suryakumar’s 111 is the best score by an Indian batsman against New Zealand in T20Is. This is the fourth best innings (by runs) in T20 for India. Virat Kohli played an unbeaten inning of 122 runs in 61 balls against Afghanistan in Dubai this year.

Most runs in T20 International this year

Suryakumar holds the record for scoring the most runs in T20 Internationals this year. In the year 2022, he has scored 1151 runs in 30 matches. During this, he has scored two centuries and nine half-centuries. Mohammad Rizwan of Pakistan is second in the list. Rizwan has scored 996 runs in 25 matches. This includes 10 fifties. Surya has a chance to hold the record for most runs in a calendar year.

Suryakumar 175 runs away from Rizwan’s record

The record for most runs in T20 Internationals in a calendar year is in the name of Mohammad Rizwan of Pakistan. Rizwan scored 1326 runs in 29 matches in 2021 at a strike rate of 134.89 and an average of 73.66. In such a situation, Suryakumar Yadav is 175 runs away from achieving this record. However, India has just one more T20 International to play this year. That is, the third T20 against New Zealand is India’s last T20 this year. In that, it will be very difficult for Suryakumar to score 175 runs. Suryakumar is also the first batsman from India to complete 1000 runs in T20 Internationals in a calendar year.
