Corona impact: 90 percent less tourists visit Nainital this season

The number of tourists has declined by 90 percent due to Corona infection in lake city Nainital, which is completely dependent on tourism. Even though the influx of tourists has started after the unlock, but there are many places where tourists still have not reached. However, tourists are expected to arrive from October.

Due to Corona, tourism activities were stopped from 20 March. During this time, businessmen including hotels, also suffered heavy losses, but after a long time, the process of opening institutes started under the guidelines issued by the state government. According to the businessmen associated with the tourism business, tourism lost Rs 500 crore during this period. On the other hand, the number of tourists arriving from the country and the world has also registered a huge decline. In such a situation, the tourism business was greatly affected. Though the process of tourist arrivals has started slowly, the expectations are set on the Bengali season of October.

Here on Sunday, the process of tourists arriving in Nainital started in the morning. After this, the movement of tourists continued throughout the day. Most tourists started returning in the evening after a day’s excursion. 80 percent of the hotels in the city are still not opened. Most hotel operators are talking about opening the hotel in the first week of October.

One and a half lakh tourists have arrived this year so far

Nearly one and a half lakh tourists arrived at nearby tourist sites including Nainital in January and February before Corona. Whereas in March, tourists stopped coming after the panic of Corona pandemic. After this, a small number of tourists are now arriving. While talking about previous years, 50 to 70 thousand tourists used to reach the city every month when the season was packed.

The process of tourists arriving from outside states after the lockdown has still not started. Meanwhile, tourists are arriving from various districts of the state. Most of the tourists are returning in the evening after a day’s visit.
