Chief Secretary orders magisterial inquiry into the violence in Haldwani

On the orders of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, Chief Secretary Radha Raturi has ordered a magisterial inquiry into the Banbhulpura violence in Haldwani. The investigation has been handed over to Kumaon Divisional Commissioner Deepak Rawat. He has been tasked with completing the investigation within 15 days and provide the report to the government. During action against encroachment in Banbhulpura of Haldwani, stones were pelted at police and administration. The miscreants even torched the police station.

The police had to impose curfew to maintain peace. During this period, more than 150 police-administration and media employees were injured in stone pelting and attack. Some people also lost their lives in police firing. Seeing the seriousness of the incident, the Chief Minister sent the Chief Secretary and Director General of Police to Haldwani on Friday.

In the evening he himself reached Haldwani, where he heard the plight of the police, administration and media people who were victims of violence. The CM ordered to identify the anarchic and unruly elements and take strict action. On Saturday, a delegation led by Congress state president Karan Mahara had submitted a memorandum at Raj Bhavan demanding a judicial inquiry into the Haldwani violence.

Curfew lifted from outer areas

Curfew continues in Banbhulpura area of Haldwani, Uttarakhand. However, curfew has been lifted from the outer areas. In the Banbhulpura violence case of Haldwani, the police registered a case against five thousand miscreants including 18 named on the complaint of SO Mukhani, Assistant Municipal Commissioner and SO Banbhulpura. The police have detained four people and taken CCTV footage and video recording into their possession.
