UPCL proposes to hike electricity tariff by 13.5% from March 2018 onwards

UPCL will offer UERC proposals to increase power tariffs in Uttarakhand by 13.5% for the financial year 2018-19. The proposal was approved at the meeting of the Board of Directors of the UPCL on Monday. Uttarakhand Electricity Regulatory Commission (UERC) will study the proposal in the next three months, and will calculate its feasibility after hearing a feedback from the public. After which the new tariff will be announced in the last week of March.

According to sources, Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited (UPCL) had prepared a proposal of 22 percent increase. But, the meeting of the audit committee was held a few days ago, in which the committee members had told it to be high and had said to reduce it. Now how did UPCL reduce it, will be known later. The meeting was held under the chairmanship of Secretary and Chairman of Board of Directors Radhika Jha.

On Monday, meeting of board of directors of Uttarakhand Hydro Power Corporation (UJVNL) and Power Transmission Corporation of Uttarakhand Limited (PITCUL) were also held in the chairmanship of Secretary Energy. The discussions about the tariff of both the corporations were discussed and the board of directors passed the resolution. Now it will be sent to the UERC.
