Cyclone likely to hit Gujarat, Maharastra on June 3 alert issued
After cyclone Amphan hit the East cost of India another cyclone is likely to hit the west coast of the country. According to the National Weather Forecasting Centre/Regional Specialised Meteorology Centre/Cyclone Warning Divisionof the India Meteorological Department:
A low pressure area formed over southeast & adjoining east central Arabian Sea and Lakshadweep area in the early morning (0530 hrs IST) and persisted over the same region during forenoon of today, the 31st May 2020.
It is very likely to concentrate into a depression over east central and adjoining southeast Arabian Sea during next 24 hours and likely to intensify further into a Cyclonic Storm during the subsequent 24 hours.It is very likely to move nearly northwards and reach near north Maharashtra and Gujarat coasts by 3rd June.
The first storm may hit the coastal areas between June 1 and 3, while the second cyclone named Nisarga can hit Kutch, hitting Dwarka, Okha and Morbi in Gujarat between June 4-5. The administration has currently issued a number signal in the coastal areas of Gujarat due to the deep depression of the Arabian Sea.
It is believed that when this cyclone hits the ground, the wind speed will be 120 kilometers per hour. According to the Meteorological Department, a low pressure area will form over the southeast and east central Arabian Sea during the next 48 hours and will increase rapidly.
It is expected to move northwest after hitting the coasts of Gujarat and North Maharashtra by June 3. The districts of Saurashtra, Porbandar, Amreli, Junagadh, Rajkot and Bhavnagar are expected to face this cyclone in Gujarat.
