Max Verstappen becomes Formula 1 World Champion 2021

Red Bull’s Max Verstappen won the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, beating Lewis Hamilton in the last lap in one of the most interesting races in Formula 1 history. With this he became the first Dutch driver to become a world champion. With this defeat, Hamilton’s dream of winning the title for a record eight times was shattered. The 22nd race between Hamilton and Verstappen decided the Formula Championship. It was the second time in the history of the sport and the first time since 1974 that two title contenders had reached the final race with the same number of points.

Verstappen denied Hamilton who was on the threshold of breaking Michael Schumacher’s record of winning the title seven times. The duo started together in the last lap, but Hamilton overtaken by Verstappen in the first four turns. Red Bull won the F1 title for the first time since 2013. Since then, Mercedes has won this title every time.

Hamilton looked disheartened after the race. However, he congratulated Verstappen. Hamilton said: “Congratulations to Verstappen and his team. I think he did a great job this year.”
