Failure to link Aadhaar-Pan by April 1 may result in Rs 10000 fine

If you have not yet linked your PAN card to Aadhaar card, get it done. The Income Tax Department can impose a fine of up to Rs 10,000 for this negligence. The Income Tax Department has fixed the deadline to link PAN card to Aadhaar card to citizens by 31 March.

Experts associated with the case say that under the Income Tax Act, these PAN cards will be treated as inactive if they are not linked to Aadhaar. Recently, the Income Tax Department has notified that action can be taken under the Act for not linking such PAN cards to Aadhaar.

Another official says that when the PAN card becomes inoperative, it is understood that the information related to it has not been shared with the government. The Income Tax Department can take action against such cardholders under Section 272B of the existing law. Fines of up to Rs 10,000 can also be imposed on these income tax payers.

However, officials of the Union Finance Ministry say that at present there is no idea of any action against those who do not link the Aadhaar card with the PAN card. The government has been decided to link the two cards only for the correct identification of the income tax payers and the correct information about the economic transactions.
