Transport Association calls for strike in Delhi on September 19

Strike called against Motor Vehicle Act

The new Motor Vehicle Act has come into force from September 1, 2019 and its effect is visible on the roads. People are opposed to the fact that the provision of huge fines in the current Act is burning a hole in their pockets. Not only this, the traffic police is being arbitrary on the roads.

The United Front of Transport Association (UFTA) has decided to go on strike on 19 September citing the  the new motor vehicle act as Darconian. The UFTA says that wheels of vehicles will be stalled in Delhi and NCR regions. This means that most of the vehicles on the roads of Delhi and NCR will be missing.

The UFTA says that the cost of running the vehicles has increased due to heavy fines. The September 19 strike will include all commercial vehicles including trucks, buses, tempo taxis, maxi cabs and auto rickshaws. The union says that the transport sector is already experiencing recession and now operators are facing more difficulties due to heavy fines. The situation is that private operators are having difficulty in paying EMI.

Along with this, the union also raised the issue of RFID. The union says that RFID is facing difficulties in online recharge because the government server is always down. Along with this, the leaders who announced the strike said that the way the amount of insurance has been changed will break the back of the transporter. Not only this, the way policemen are appearing in traffic violation violations is nothing short of a scary dream. The union clearly believes that road safety is necessary but those people should also get protection.
