Heavy rains lash Uttarakhand; cloudburst in Chamoli

Weather forecast in Uttarakhand has proven to be precise. High speed winds and rain have thrown lives out of gear in different parts of the state. Several shops and houses have been damaged by the cloudburst in Narayanbagad of Chamoli district. However there is no news of any casualties in it. Even in Kumaon, the storm and rain have wreaked havoc.

Suddenly the clouds burst after heavy rains in Narayanbagad of Chamoli district. Due to which heavy debris along with water came down from a local water source onto the main highway. Due to this the Karnprayag-Gwaldam Highway was closed for half an hour. At the same time, five vehicles, including Bolero, on the highway in the Jeetsingh Market, were stuck in the rubble. Not only this, after the cloud burst, the debris entered many shops, hospitals and houses were damaged as well. The local administration and police reached the spot on the information of cloud burst and facilitated traffic on the highway.  More than 15 buildings are threatened in this area. During the rain people are afraid to live in homes. People say that if the water is not drained, then staying here can be dangerous. Police Chowki In-charge Hemant Semwal said that the water level of the rivulet has now reduced and the traffic on the highway has been streamlined.

District Collector Ashish Joshi said that the rescue team is present on the spot. He said that due to the rain water coming in the drain, water reached in the shops, now the situation is normal.

Snowfall occured many places in Pithoragarh and Almora. There was hailstorm reported in Kumaon region which destroyed the standing crops of the farmers. In most places, due to falling of trees, traffic had been interrupted, in which many people were reported to be injured.
