Alyssa Healy powers Australia Women’s Cricket team to record extending 7th World Cup win

After the brilliant century of veteran wicket-keeper batsman Alyssa Healy, Australia defeated England by 71 runs in the final match played at Hagley Oval in Christchurch on the strength of their bowlers for the seventh time in the Women’s Cricket World Cup.  In front of the huge target of 357 runs set by Australia, the entire team of England was bundled out for 285 runs. Natalie Sciver scored the highest unbeaten 148 for England. For Australia, Jess Jonassen and Alana King took 3 wickets each.

Earlier, Australia scored a mammoth score of 356 for 5 against England on the back of Alyssa Healy’s innings of 170 runs. Healy got a lifeline on a personal total of 41 runs, which she took full advantage of. She hit 26 fours in 138 balls in his innings.

English team bundled out before 50 overs

Chasing the target, England did not have a good start and they lost wickets at regular intervals. From her side, Natalie stood at one end, but from the other end she did not get the support of other batters. Natalie hit 15 fours and a six in 121 balls. Opener Tammy Beaumont was dismissed after scoring 27 runs while captain Heather Knight contributed 26 runs. Sophia Dunkley was dismissed for 22 and Amy Jones scored 20. The entire team of England was all-out in 43.4 overs.

Alyssa Healy breaks many records

Healy also set a new record for the highest individual score in the finals of the men’s and women’s World Cups. She is followed by Adam Gilchrist (149, World Cup 2007), Ricky Ponting (140, World Cup 2003) and Viv Richards (138, World Cup 1979).

Healy’s opening partner Rachel Haynes (68 off 93 balls) and Beth Mooney (62 off 47 balls) supported her well, helping Australia set the record for the highest score in the Women’s World Cup final. This is the second highest score in the men’s and women’s World Cup finals. The Australian men’s team scored 359 for two against India in the final of the 2003 World Cup.

After 34 years both the teams were face to face in the final

Both the teams were face to face in the final of ICC World Cup after 34 years. Earlier, the two met in the final of the 1988 World Cup. Australia’s women’s team went to play the final for the seventh time, while England’s team reached the final for the sixth time. In the current World Cup, Australia’s team had traveled to the final without losing any match, while England had to face defeat in 3 out of 7 matches played in the league stage.
