The case of the arrest of five activists on Tuesday, has reached the Supreme Court on behalf of the Pune Police on charges of having links with Maoists after raids in five states. Educationist Romila Thapar and other four rights activists have filed a petition in the apex court against this arrest which will be heard today.

Chief Justice Deepak Mishra can hear the petition filed on behalf of Thapar, Devaki Jain, Prabhat Patnaik, Satish Deshpande and Maya Daruwala.

When the Chief Justice came along with other judges to hear a constitutional bench, senior counsel Abhishek Manu Singhvi, Dushyant Dave and Indira Jaisingh appeared before them. Singhvi said that due to unusual circumstances hearing before its Constitutional Bench is necessary.

While presiding over the Constitutional Bench, the Chief Justice can not take any case for immediate hearing, so he told Singhvi that he would come in front of the three-member bench at 3:45 pm.
