Australia bans TikTok on government devices

The Australian government has banned social media app TikTok. According to the news agency, the Federal Government of Australia has banned the app due to security breach concerns. After which TikTok will no longer work on the official devices of government officials.

With the banning of Tiktok, Australia has joined the list of countries that have banned the Chinese video app on government devices in their country. Earlier, the governments of  US, Canada, United Kingdom and New Zealand have banned TikTok. In India there is a nation wide ban on TikTok.

App banned after the advice of security agencies

Attorney-General Mark Dreyfus announced the ban on the app after consulting intelligence and security agencies. He said that the ban will be implemented ‘as quickly as possible.’

TikTok called the decision politically motivated

TikTok’s Australia and New Zealand general manager Lee Hunter said there is no evidence that TikTok is in any way a threat to the security of Australians. It should not be treated like any other social media platform. TikTok has described this decision of the Australian government as politically motivated.
