Car parking fees to be hiked in Karol Bagh for traffic decongestion

In order to promote public transport and to make the business area more accessible to the pedestrians, the Northern Municipal Corporation has increased the parking fee for the use of road of Delhi’s Karol Bagh. This step has been taken after the Ajmal Khan Road in the area has been made for pedestrians on Wednesday.

Senior officials of the North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) said on Saturday that just before the announcement of the date of the election, approval for the project and parking charges was increased. Ajmal Khan Road had a very busy traffic for decades and where there were inconvenience to those who came there due to the car parking.

NDMC Commissioner Varsha Joshi said, “It was first envisaged in 2010 but for some reasons it did not start. So as soon as I took over the NDMC, we chose this zone. We interacted with the market associations and made the off-street parking space using the old unused locations of the corporation.”

On Wednesday, pedestrians were surprised when they saw quite a smooth movement on a one-kilometer road, benches and plant pots etc.
