The Parliament of Ireland has declared a climate emergency. Ireland has thus become the second country in the world to take such a step after Britain. Swedish teenager Greta Thünberg, who campaigned for the environment, has applauded the decision labeling it “very good” news.

On Thursday night, a amendment to the parliamentary report was declared “Climate Emergency” and the Parliament was called upon to “see how it (Irish government) can improve its response to the issue of biodiversity loss.” This amendment was accepted without voting.

Eamon Ryan, who heads the Irish Green Party and proposed this amendment in Parliament, gave this decision a “historic agreement.” The 16-year-old activist Thünberg is running a campaign across Europe and she became one of the most vocal about the Green Revolution. She has urged other countries to follow it.
