COVAXIN trials begin in AIIMS, results expected in 2-3 months

The human trial of indigenous vaccine COVAXIN is commencing at the All India Institute of Age Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi. AIIMS director Dr. Randeep Guleria said on Monday that phase 2 of the corona vaccine is being tested in AIIMS Delhi after phase one. It is a dormant virus from which human life has to be protected.

Dr. Randeep Guleria said that many people have registered to participate in the trial. So far 1800 volunteers have registered. Healthy people from 18 to 55 years will be selected for trial. Initially, samples of 1125 healthy people will be taken. There will be a trial on 375 people in phase one. 100 healthy volunteers will be selected for AIIMS. In Phase-II, people aged 12 to 65 will be tried.

Dr. Guleria said that ‘we are selecting both men and women for the trial. However, the pregnancy test of a woman should be negative. At first 3 mg and 6 mg doses will be given. The most important thing is that the vaccine should be safe. Results of this phase will be with us after two-three months. After giving the vaccine, we will see if Antibodies are developing in that person’.

He told that if there are any side effects then it will be monitored. Apart from this, ‘we will need to see that immunity remains for a long time, that is, there is no effect on it. People have been selected for trials at some centers. We are preparing our own vaccine. We are capable of mass production.’
