India to host Women’s U-17 World Cup from November 2 to 21 next year

The FIFA Under-17 Women’s World Cup, hosted by India, will be held from November 2 to 21 next year. This age group competition of FIFA will be played in four cities of the country. Last month, Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar was permanently chosen as one of its sites, but it is yet to get FIFA approval. Kolkata, Navi Mumbai, Goa and Ahmedabad are also in the race.

India was chosen to host this tournament in March this year. Spain is the defending champion who became the winner of this tournament two years back in 2018. India have qualified for the tournament as hosts. Given this, it has decided not to send the team to the AFC Under-16 Women’s Championship to be played in Thailand from 15 to 28 September.

FIFA stated, “OC has confirmed that the competition will take place from 2 to 21 November 2020. Host cities will be confirmed at the appropriate time. ”

Tournament director Roma Khanna told reporters on Friday that Kolkata, Bhubaneswar, Ahmedabad, Goa and Navi Mumbai are the five venues which were inspected by the FIFA team for the tournament. She said that many other cities are also interested in it.

Khanna said that the second round of assessment would begin later this year. FIFA President Gianni Infantino announced in March that India would host the 2020 Under-17 Women’s World Cup. Earlier, India hosted the Men’s Under-17 World Cup in 2017.
