Scientists name newly discovered snail species after Greta Thunberg

Scientists have discovered a new species of snail. The temperature-sensitive species is named Craspedotropis gretathunbergae after the environmental activist Greta Thunberg. She has been given this honor for her efforts in spreading awareness towards climate change.

The study, published in the journal Biodiversity Data, states that this species of snail belongs to the group Canogastropods. This species living on the land has is effected by drought, extreme temperature fluctuations and deforestation. Other scientists, including Menno Schilthuizen of the Naturalis Biodiversity Center in the Netherlands, reported that the new species of snails were found close to the Kuala Belalong Field Studies Center in Brunei.

JP Lim, a scientist looking for the first snail of the new species, said that our purpose behind naming it after Greta Thunberg is that the generation of Thunberg also needs to find solutions to problems they did not cause.

Scientists said that all the work for the discovery of new species was done at a place where only basic facilities were available. Internet was not available. The study, which lasted for 10 days, involved civilian scientists who were given expert guidance.
