Transport services strike in Uttarakhand on 11 Sep against Motor Vehicle Act

All private public transport services in Uttarakhand will come to a complete standstill tomorrow against the decision of the Central Government to increase the penalty amount in the Motor Vehicles Act manifold. City buses, private buses, Vikram, auto, taxi-maxi, trucks and school vans are also included in the proposed strike under the banner of Uttarakhand Transport Federation. In such a situation, school children and ordinary passengers may face a lot of trouble tomorrow. The federation has met the Transport Secretary and given notice of the strike. It has been demanded that in the cabinet meeting to be held on Wednesday, a decision should not be taken to increase the fine in the state. If this does not happen, the Transport Federation can also go on an indefinite strike.

Stringent rules have been imposed for violating transport and traffic rules in the new Motor Vehicles Act. The penalty amount has also gone up considerably. Although the state government is churning out the fine amount in Uttarakhand, the transporters have already started raising demands to keep the old system in force. A day-long strike was decided on September 16 at a meeting of transporters in Rishikesh two days ago on this matter, but on Monday the transporters changed the strike day to September 11. Transporters met Transport Secretary Shailesh Bagoli on Monday under the banner of Uttarakhand Transport Federation. Federation’s patron Dinesh Bahuguna said that the transport business has come to a standstill today due to the neglect of the interests of transporters by the central government. The auto sector is reeling. The government is implementing such policies, which have brought the transport business into crisis. Transport businessmen are being harassed. The federation warned that if a proper decision is not taken on the penalty amount in the state in the proposed cabinet meeting on Wednesday, the transporters can also go on an indefinite strike. Transporters said that one year should be taken to review the system and implement it.

Respite to essential services

Transporters have exempted vehicles of essential service in the strike. Vehicles of medicines, including fruits and vegetables and milk will not be stopped.
