Court gives clean chit to Delhi youth labelled molester 4 years ago

It was four years old when a common boy of Delhi was labeled a molester overnight and was seen by the people with hatred. He became a persecutor of girls in the eyes of people and his life completely changed. The boy was Sarvjeet Singh of Delhi who was accused of exploitation by a girl named Jasleen Kaur. After this, social media and mainstream media held Sarvjeet guilty without any investigation.

Significantly, this incident is from 2015. Four years later, news has come that Sarvajit has been acquitted of all charges. For the past four years, Sarvjeet was suffering from mental torture not only from the case but also from the society as well. He was booked under section 354 A (Sexual Harassment), 506 (Punishment for criminal Intimidation) and 509 (Word, Gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the IPC.

Three months after the incident, his father suffered a heart attack, who is still on medication. The mother wants to get her son married, but the stigma is such that even the marriage is not taking place. Sarabjit had been struggling for a job for three years. He had to travel to the police station every time to went out of Delhi and he is not even able to get a passport.

What was the matter and what allegations were leveled against Sarvjeet

In 2015 an image went viral on social media. As soon as it became viral, Sarvjeet became a villain in the eyes of the people. The image was of taken at a traffic signal in Tilak Nagar and in which Jasleen Kaur accused Sarvjeet Singh of making lewd comments against her.

Jasleen wrote on her Facebook, ‘This young man made shameless comments on me. Will the Delhi Police take any action on this? ‘ After putting this post Sarvjeet’s whole life changed. Due to the criminal record, he was not even getting a job. The company where he was working asked him to quit his job.

His life was ruined in this way but when he was acquitted, this news would not reach the people if he did not post the court verdict on his Facebook.  He wrote on Facebook, ‘The verdict has arrived … I am acquitted. I thank Waheguru and thank everyone for their support… ..my mother has always stood by me. It was because of her company that I got courage.’

Jasleen fails to turn up in any of the case hearing

Jasleen who had accused Sarvjeet of the charges failed to turn up for any of the hearing in the four year long case. The reason cited was that she is studying abroad in Canada.The magistrate while concluding the trails said that the prosecution failed to prove the case beyond reasonable doubts and Sarvjeet was acquitted from all charges.
