HRD minister lays foundation stone of NIT in Sumari

The wait for locals seeking construction of a permanent campus of NIT in Sumari finally came to an end. Today, Chief Guest Uttarakhand Governor Baby Rani Maurya, Special Guest Chief Minister Trivendra Rawat and Human Resource Development Minister Dr. Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank unveiled the foundation stone after Bhoomi Pujan.

The foundation stone ceremony of the sanctioned NIT Uttarakhand in the year 2009 concluded today in two places. Bhoomi Poojan and foundation stone were first performed in the land selected for permanent campus. After the foundation stone laying ceremony, Human Resource Development Minister Dr. Nishank said that the first phase of the institute will be constructed in two years. He said that about one thousand students of NIT Uttarakhand studying at MNIT Jaipur, the satellite campus of NIT, will return to the temporary campus (Srinagar) from next year.

He said that the students here are doing well in Jaipur. After almost an hour’s program in Sumari, all reached GI&TI grounds Srinagar. Addressing the public meeting here, Governor Baby Rani Maurya said that the holy Ganges flows in Uttarakhand. Similarly, the Ganges of Knowledge also flows here. She said that technology should be affordable and everyone should get the benefit of it. She said that the construction of permanent campus will develop the area.

After this, in his address, Chief Minister Rawat said that today all doubts are over. The state government will bear the expenses of NIT’s electricity-water-road in Sumari. 20 crores have been sanctioned for water. A separate power feeder will be installed. Rs 30 crore will be given for this. Internal roads will also be constructed by the state government. At the same time HRD Minister Nishank said that NIT has been approved in Sumari. The day the state government will give land for the central school in Srinagar. 25 crores will be given on the same day.

He said that Cabinet Ministers Harak Singh and Subodh Uniyal have also demanded a Kendriya Vidyalaya at Kotdwar and Narendranagar. If the qualification is completed at Kotdwar, it will be approved as soon as possible. The issue of Narendranagar will also be seen. Apart from this, Garhwal MP Tirath Rawat said that after becoming an MP, he had raised the first question of NIT.

Today the government has ended all the deadlock by laying the foundation stone here. During this, Minister of State Dr. Dhan Singh Rawat proposed a vote of thanks. Director of NIT Uttarakhand Prof. SL Soni apprised the progress report of the institute and Sumari’s plan.

Construction work will be done on 50 acres of land in the first phase

NIT Uttarakhand will be constructed in Sumari in a phased manner. In the first phase, arrangements will be made for 1260 students. The second phase will be built after site development. The institute has got 310 acres of land for the construction of a permanent campus of NIT in Sumari. It will have 50 acres of land in the first phase.

Director of NIT Prof. SL Soni informed that the construction cost of the first phase has been estimated at about 641 crores. The work of construction has been given to CPWD. CPWD will complete it in 30 months. He informed that there will be complete accommodation for students and staff. A 500-capacity auditorium, guest house, smart classroom, air-conditioned classrooms, 10-bed hospital and community center will be built here.
