Schools in 8 Uttarakhand districts to remain closed on December 14

The weather in Uttarakhand has started showing its cold effect. Due to heavy snowfall, the cold weather conditions from mountain to plains has increased. Snowfall in Nainital, Dhanaulti, Auli and Chakrata on Friday morning increased the cold. The Auli, Gangotri-Yamunotri routes have been closed since the morning snowfall. The administration in Nainital, Champawat, Pithoragarh, Pauri, Udhamsingh Nagar, Dehradun, Rudraprayag and Chamoli have all declared holiday in private and government schools view of the possibility of heavy snowfall. Instructions have been given to keep the school and Anganwadi center closed in these districts on December 14.

The connectivity of many villages in Chamoli and Uttarkashi is cut off from the main routes. On the other hand, the Pithoragarh-Ghat motorway has been closed due to rock fall near the Delhi band. According to information received from NH, it is likely to open by late evening. Munsiyari-Thal route is also closed due to snowfall. Three buses of roadways got stuck on the way due to the closure of Lohaghat-Devidhura motorway due to snowfall in Dhanachuli.

The first snowfall of this year occurred in Joshimath market, Joshimath city saw snow for the first time in 30 years. In December 1989, there was snow in the market. There is a change in the weather on Friday in Mussoorie, the queen of the mountains. Sudden chill has increased due to the drop in temperature. At the same time, the possibility of snowfall has increased due to increasing cold.

The weather patterns in Garhwal and Kumaon had deteriorated since Thursday. In Chamoli district, along with Badrinath Dham, high altitude areas including Hemkund Sahib, Rudranath, Gaurasan Bugyal, Auli continued to experience snowfall throughout the day. Garsain has also been experiencing snow since Friday morning. In Bharadisain, there is about 6 feet of snow around the assembly building and campus. There is heavy cloud cover all over the area.

The Meteorological Department has also issued an alert of heavy snowfall in the higher reaches of Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Bageshwar, Almora, Dehradun, Tehri, Pauri and Pithoragarh. Also, there can be cold conditions in the state today and tomorrow.
